Each product page has all information available about the item. Below is a general product guide with general information about sizes and materials.
MATS:
Mats are offered with different thickness and length measurements.
Mat width:
The most popular mat width in Europe, the USA and elsewhere is 24 inches which equals to almost 61 centimeters.
- 24" = 60.96 cm
Mat Length:
The most popular mat length in the U.S.A. is 68 inches. In Europe, mats that are 72" (182 cm) long are as common as the 68" mats. Also, for taller people, even longer mats are available that are up to 193 cm (76"), and sometimes even longer. Most of the mats you will find at The Maha Shop are either 68" or 76" long.

Mat Thickness:
Mat thickness varies a lot. Some people prefer thinner mats because they are lighter to carry and because they find them easier to balance on. Other people prefer thicker mats because because they like the extra padding which makes it easier on the knees.
The most common mat sizes are the 1/8" mats in U.S.A. and 4mm mats in Europe. (4mm is almost equal to 2.5/16 of an inch). On the thicker size, the 1/4" mat is popular everywhere and also the 6mm mats are popular in Europe.
- 1/16" = 1.5875
- 1/8" inch = 3.1750 mm - (1/8" = 2/16")
- 3/16" = 4.7625
- 1/4" = 6.35 - (1/4" = 4/16")
- 5/16" = 7.9375
PROPS
Yoga Straps:
Yoga straps are usually made from cotton. Occasionally you will find straps made from nylon. The most popular strap lengths are:
- 6 feet = 182.88 cm
- 8 feet = 243.84 cm
- 10 feet = 304.8 cm
At The Maha Shop we carry, 8 + 10 ft straps.
Also, Yoga Straps are available with a metallic D-Ring, or with a plastic Buckle Cinch. We carry both types.
Foam Bricks:
The following sizes are the most common for bricks:
- 3 x 5 1/2 x 9 (7.62 x 13.97 x 22.86 cm)
- 3 x 6 x 9 (7.62 x 15.24 x 22.86 cm)
- 4 x 6 x 9 (10.16 x 15.24 x 22.86 cm)
We usually carry all these sizes.
Measurement Guide:
When buying yoga equipment, you will come across various measurements, some in inches, feet and yards, some in millimeters, centimeters and meters. Below is a quick reference table for converting from one measurement to the other:
- 1 inch = 2.54 cm
- 1 foot = 30.48 cm
- 1 foot = 12 in
- 5 feet = 152.4 cm
- 1 meter = 3.2808399 feet
- 1 yard = 91.44 cm
- 1 meter = 1.0936133 yards
- 3 in = 7.62 cm
- 4 in = 10.16 cm
- 5.5 in = 13.97 cm
- 6 in = 15.24 cm
- 9 in = 22.86 cm
TOTES & BAGS
There are various sizes of bags for your mat and other accessories. When buying a yoga mat bag pay attention to its size, as some bags can only carry the thinner mats.
All the bags you will find in our store can hold all the mats we carry.
DVDs
When buying a DVD there are a couple of things you need to pay attention to.
NTSC or PAL:
DVDs are usually published in one of two formats, NTSC (the American standard) or PAL (the European standard). Usually most European DVD players have no problem playing the NTSC standard. However, most American players can not play the PAL standard.
Region 1, 2, 3, 4, 5?
DVDs of popular films are usually "Region Encoded" which means they can play only in the region they are encoded for (for example North America, Europe, Asia, etc). However, most of the fitness, health, meditation DVDs are Region Encoding Free (also known as Region 0).

Most of the DVDs we offer are NTSC format, and are Region Free. That means that if your DVD player can play NTSC format DVDs, then they can be played regardless of the region you are in.
Some of the DVDs we offer are in the PAL format, however, because most DVDs are published in the United States their publisher makes them available only with the NTSC format. For DVDs that are also available in the PAL system, we offer their PAL version. All other DVDs are in their original NTSC version.
Playing a NTSC DVD in Europe shouldn't be a problem. Most modern DVD players in Europe can play NTSC format. However, before purchasing a DVD, PLEASE CHECK YOUR DVD PLAYER to make sure it supports NTSC. We can not accept returns for opened DVDs.
POSTERS
Posters come in various sizes. Some posters are laminated. Size and other details for each poster can be found in each poster's page.
We ship posters in Document Tubes (cylinders). It is the safest method to ship a poster.
Due to the paper nature of posters, you should expect that it might have small creases and minor cuts around the edges. These will most likely not be visible unless you look close, and will probably not be visible at all if you frame the poster around the edges.
We make every effort to ship the poster to you in perfect condition, however, some posters come to us from our suppliers with slight cuts.
